Pet News & Pet Care Information

Animal and pet care is not just a case of opening a tin or packet of pet food, but it's not rocket science either!

Far too many people are seduced by the idea that animal and pet care consists of feeding their pet and ensuring that it "does it's duties" when required.  There is a lot more to it than that and naturally some aspects are peculiar to a particular species.  Your "silly tame" parrot biting you during the springtime is a different kettle of fish from your dog or cat becoming aggressive.  We look at these problems in depth on their own pages - they are not insoluble.

Next to our spouses and immediate relatives, our pets are the most precious things to us.  We pander to their needs and, hopefully, are rewarded with reciprocal adoration and the epitome of obedience.  But, so often what should be a loving relationship is blighted by behavioural problems.  I know, I have suffered from the results of these in the past when a lot less was known about the control of animal behaviour.

Only a few years ago poor benighted dog owners were led to believe that half strangling their beloved pooch with a choke chain was the way to train it.  In some instances it worked - probably because they were dealing with an easily trained specimen.  A lot of the difficult cases were more than likely destroyed.  Apart from the odd remaining dinosaurs, those trainers are no more, or have learned the error of their ways and joined the 21st century where more humane methods prevail.

I want to make this site your first port of call for pet problems and care.  We will look at diets, training, remedies and general pet care.

We will cover the various pets including dogs, cats, horses, birds, and fish.

In addition, we will investigate the best accommodation for pets looking at kennels, cages, fish tanks and pet transportation methods.

Who are we?  Good question and easily answered.  My wife and I have kept dogs, small birds, parrots and fish of our own.  In addition, we owned and ran an aquatic center in the UK for nearly 8 years so we are able to write knowledgeably about fish keeping.  We are both passionate about our animals but they have never included horses. Probably the most common fault with pet owners is the complete inability to limit their "kindness".  It is not kind to give your dog chocolate or other sweet foods. Or to feed it whenever it begs so charmingly.  I have a 9 1/2 year old Great Dane if you did not know her age, you would think her teeth were those of a puppy!  In addition, she does not suffer from "dogs breath".  She has always been fed a complete dried dog food with vegetable as a treat - I swear she would kill for a head of broccoli - she's also given two pigs ears in the afternoon.  She finishes up with a few bone shaped biscuits at bedtime.

Here's an article about pet obesity:

It's downright cruel to feed your African grey parrot peanuts and sunflower seed as a staple diet.  The latter may come as a shock to many people but we know from bitter experience that it's true.  Our beloved African Grey very nearly died from malnutrition on such a diet.  She had lots of fruit and vegetables as well but collapsed with a calcium deficiency.  It was fortunate that we knew of a veterinarian who specialised in small animals and after a week of intensive care and the force feeding of mineral supplements she recovered.

The last two paragraphs are examples of just how important it is to follow the rules and keep abreast of the latest developments in pet care.

You will find pages dedicated to particular species or groups of animals.  We will constantly add information as and when it becomes available.

Health and happiness to you and your pets!
